What we usually find

The sound tells us a lot. These are the usual causes.

Grinding or scraping

Usually a fan blade hitting ice or a fan motor with worn bearings. We clear the ice or replace the fan.

Clicking on and off

A compressor that clicks but will not run often has a failed start relay. It is a quick fix, but leave it too long and the compressor can overheat.

Loud buzzing or humming

Can be the compressor working too hard, a water valve on an ice and water fridge, or a loose part vibrating. We find which.

Rattling

Often the fridge is not level or a panel at the back has come loose. We level it and secure it.

What happens when we come out

  1. You call or text

Tell us the brand, the model if you have it, and what the fridge is doing. We book a time that suits you.

  2. We find the fault

The technician tests the fridge at your home and tells you what is wrong in plain words.

  3. You approve the price

You get the full price before we start. If it is not worth fixing, we tell you.

  4. We fix it

Most repairs are done on the spot with parts from the van. Our work has a 12 month warranty.

Before you call

  • Check nothing on top of or behind the fridge is rattling against it.
  • Make sure the fridge is not touching the wall or cupboards.

Anything past these checks is a job for us. Please do not take off back panels, touch the gas pipes or pull out wiring. Fridges have high voltage parts and a sealed gas system, and a wrong move can turn a simple repair into a new fridge.

Questions about this repair

Is some noise normal?

Yes. Fridges hum, click when they start and stop, and gurgle as gas moves around. A new or louder noise is worth a check.

Can a noisy fridge still work?

Often it keeps working for a while, but a worn fan or failing relay usually gets worse. Fixing it early is cheaper.

Can you tell over the phone?

Sometimes. Hold your phone near the fridge when you call and we may be able to tell you the likely part.
