What sea air does to a fridge
Salt in the air settles on the condenser coils and fan at the back of the fridge. Over time it can speed up rust and corrosion, especially on fridges in outdoor kitchens, balconies and garages.
Damp air also means more condensation. Door seals can go mouldy and stiff, and a seal that does not close properly lets in even more moist air, which turns to ice in the freezer.
Outdoor and alfresco fridges
Bar fridges on balconies and in outdoor kitchens get the worst of the salt and sun. Many are not built for it. We repair them, and tell you honestly when one is at the end of its life.

Can I stop salt damage?
Keep the back of the fridge clean and dry and leave a gap for air. For outdoor fridges, a covered spot out of the weather helps a lot.
Why is my door seal mouldy?
Damp coastal air and food spills let mould grow in the folds. A mouldy seal often stops sealing too. We replace seals for most brands.
