Why heat breaks fridges
A fridge cools by moving heat out of the cabinet and into the room. The hotter the room, the harder it has to work. On a 40 degree day in a closed garage, the fridge may run all day and never catch up.
Every fridge has a climate class on its rating sticker. It tells you the room temperatures the fridge is built for.

Many kitchen fridges are SN or N. In a Western Sydney garage in January, that is not enough. We can check your rating sticker when we visit.
Cold garages cause problems too
In winter a garage can drop below the lowest temperature a fridge is built for. On many fridges the only sensor is in the fridge section, so in a cold room the fridge barely runs and the freezer starts to thaw. If your garage freezer softens in winter, this is often why.

Questions
Should I move my garage fridge inside?
If it is not rated for the heat, moving it somewhere cooler will help it last. If that is not possible, a gap all round and a clean condenser make a big difference.
Why does my fridge fail every summer?
Heat wears out fans, relays and compressors faster. A fridge that struggles every summer may be the wrong climate class for where it lives.
